We don’t know what Derren Richardson puts on his passport as his profession. Chippie, or chippy owner? He used to work in a fish and chip shop, then became a joiner, and now he’s returned to the business he swore he’d left for good. But this time it’s his own business, and he’s set it up with some useful help from Johnson Reed in the form of chip shop leasing finance for a new Hopkins counter to the tune of £10,000.
He converted an empty off-licence into his dream chippy, called The Funky Fish, in Brough, Hull. But in carrying out the refurbishment, he was confronted with a bill for £5,000 to put on a gas supply, which left him short of cash for essential equipment. So he turned to Johnson Reed for help.
Derren is glad that he approached us for his fish and chip shop equipment finance, and he’s very pleased with the end results. He said,
“The counter is pretty special. It’s got our logo laser-cut into it and it includes a drinks fridge and downlighters. It’s amazing and the customers love it.”
Derren says he would wholeheartedly recommend Johnson Reed to other chippy owners. He said,
“It was very easy to gain the finance we needed. We literally made one phone call and they dealt with everything else. Had we gone to the bank, they would have wanted details of our trading history, accounts etc which, being a new business, we just didn’t have. It just took the pressure off us a bit.”
He opened on bonfire night, and the last we heard was that his customer levels have rocketed – thanks to some opportune financial help from Johnson Reed.
