Whether you’ve signed up for the gym as part of a New Year health kick, or had a membership for a while, your hard work and effort might not be paying off as much as it could be.

According to established fitness instructor, Owen Edwards, the lack of guidance and impersonal approach is where conventional gyms often miss the mark, passively leaving members to ‘get on with it’ regardless of their ability or understanding of the equipment.

Having worked in gym environments since 2007, Owen identified a gap in the market outside of London’s financial districts for a facility with a more hands-on approach; offering members structured, progressive and supervised exercise programmes.

With experience as an in-house and freelance personal trainer, two years of thorough market research and experience in some of London’s most prestigious gyms under his belt, Owen returned to Cardiff to pursue his business vision. The innovative fitness concept, The Studio Method, was born.

The Studio Method refers to the process through which clients, ‘learn to train properly and love to train regularly’. Taking inspiration from some of London’s most prestigious ‘boutique’ gyms, The Studio is a private members training facility offering outstanding customer service and valuable personal input to training.

Unlike conventional gyms, The Studio has no treadmills, cardio machines, TVs or mirrors. Instead, they champion the value of conventional strength training, with free weights and squat racks. The concept is projected to thrive in the affluent proximity of the site.

Owen approached Johnson Reed to explore leasing options for The Studio’s fitness equipment and various elements of the fit out, including weights, apparatus, furniture, changing room lockers, signage and neon lighting. (Take a look at the site in the gallery below!)

Leasing is valuable tool for any new start business; allowing them to acquire the equipment they need for their operation without immediately parting with a large sum of capital expenditure and damaging cash flow. Whilst many underwriters struggle to secure finance for free weights due to a lack of residual value, Johnson Reed recognise that this equipment is mission critical and brings value to your business.

“Thanks to Mark and the team at Johnson Reed, we have managed to complete and fully equip our facility to the highest standard. By reducing the initial capital expenditure, we have been able to invest our money into marketing and advertisement campaigns.” Owen told us, “Excellent customer service is one of our highest regarded attributes here at The Studio. The standards set by Mark and the team at Johnson Reed are something to aspire to.”

The Studio runs group classes and personal training with the aim to offer spin, yoga and physio facilities by the end of the year. Before joining any of these classes, however, clients must undertake the Foundation Course, where they can learn their lifts with ‘technical proficiency’ to ensure they have to baseline knowledge to work out safely and effectively.

Last month, The Studio hosted several open days and free sessions to spark interest amongst potential members, and received encouraging feedback. If the ‘soft launch’ is anything to go by, it looks like The Studio Method will be very popular in Cardiff indeed!
